notes:
Mr. Lincoln gave a speech from the back of a train Though his fancy language was too hard on my brain What the heck he meant by this, I'll never know Four score and twenty years ago The crowd was murmuring and scratching their heads And we all tossed and turned that night in our beds That funny phrase he used compounded our woe Four score and twenty years ago When Lincoln's speech was done we all hit the books And searched in vain for it all day However, most of us don't know how to read So we can't look it up anyway Many years from now I hope to figure it out And then I'll understand what it was about In spite of what he said, it was a good show Four score and twenty years ago
