The Aroma of Agriculture

notes:
I was standing beneath the flowering trees
that were a writhing mass of happy bees.
There's no sense of surrender this morning,
just the aroma of agriculture.
Mexican sweetbread and cups of coffee
make me as happy as the happy bees.
There's no sense of surrender this morning,
just the aroma of agriculture.
Future cheeseburgers and T-bone steaks,
from the Gulf of Mexico up to the Great Lakes,
from the Atlantic to the Pacific
... the aroma of agriculture.
Somewhere near the thrum of I-5,
pollen-laden bees return to the hive.
There's no sense of surrender this morning,
just the aroma of agriculture.
Sweetbread eaten; coffee drunk,
I seem to have survived last night's funk.
There's no sense of surrender this morning,
just the aroma of agriculture.
